ecgAUTO software

ecgAUTO performs advanced analysis of ecg data and since version 2 add-on analysis modules ("analyzers") are available for other types of data. Each analyzer has been developed using algorithms widely accepted and validated by the life science research community.

RIP is the ecgAUTO analyzer for use with pulmonary data, specifically lung volume data acquired using the emkaBELT option of emkaPACK noninvasive telemetry. It is described in more detail below.

If combining cardiovascular and respiratory data, other analyzers, such as the blood pressure analyzer may also be used at the same time.

RIP analyzer


Data are recorded in iox acquisition software. They are then processed in ecgAUTO using the RIP analyzer. Processing involves a final calibration step then the analysis itself.

Calibration of lung volume data involves three stages:

  1. in iox acquisition software, calibrate flow signal from pressure transducer (connected to a pneumotachograph)
  2. place mask and belt(s) around subject. Record at least 15 seconds of data this way (calibration period). Then remove mask and continue experiment as normal.
  3. (After recording) in ecgAUTO software, perform final calibration using calibration period data. The final calibration allows belt signals to be expressed as a lung volume.

  • duration of breath
  • duration of inspiration/expiration
  • breathing rate
  • inspired/expired volume
  • minute volume
  • max flow during inspiration/expiration
  • when 2 belts used
    thorax-abdomen shift - time or angle
